She is professor in analytical chemistry at Department of Chemistry “Ugo Schiff” of the University of Florence since 2001 and currently president of Course of Study in Chemistry Degree, at this University.
Her research subjects are electrochemical, piezoelectric and optical nano(bio)sensors based on enzymes, antibodies, bacteria, DNA, molecular imprinted polymers and aptamers. New biosensing principles containing nanomaterials and modified interfaces. Design procedures suitable for biosensor devices: flow injection analysis, microflow systems, thick-film technology, nanodispensing technologies.
She has published more than 130 papers and book chapters by directing and participating research and thesis projects.
Her research result “iTUNA” was exhibited in the Science Museum, London, UK (2017).
Awarded as title of Distinguished Visiting Professor from Faculty of Pharmacy “Iuliu Haţieganu” University of Medicine & Pharmacy, Cluj-Napoca (Romania) (2017). She was visiting professor at University of Cranfield (UK) (2010-2014).
Member of the steering board of Italian Sensors and Microsystems Group (AISEM). Coordinator of Italian Sensor Group, Italian Chemistry Society (SCI) (2016-2018).
Associate editor of Biosensors. Member of the Editorial Advisory Boards of the Journals Bioelectrochemistry, Sensor and High-Throughput.
Reviewer for several international journals in the field of analytical chemistry, sensors, electroanalysis and materials chemistry.
