He completed his PhD in the field of analytical chemistry at University of Cincinnati, USA, in 1975, under the supervision of late Professor Harry B. Mark, Jr. He served at METU between the years of 1975-2014. He was a visiting scholar at University of Cincinnati, Chemistry Department in 1986-1988. He is a member in the administrative board of FEDEK, The Society for Accreditation of Undergraduate Programs in Art and Science Faculties. He officially retired on January 2014 and is presently continuing his research and teaching activities at METU. His research field is analytical chemistry, focused on atomic spectrometry, speciation and preconcentration, and recently archaeometry. Analytical techniques of quartz and W-coil atom traps for determination of elements at ng/L (ppt) levels have been developed in his laboratories.
